Walking around Moscow Volvo S60 and V60 Cross Country station wagon

This is how the sedan looks like in the R-Design configuration (from 2.75 million rubles for the 190-strong version of the T4). Inscription version is 26 thousand cheaper. The third generation of passenger cars "sixty", just in case, is included in the Russian approval of the vehicle type with a full complement, but it will be sold in a truncated form. We get acquainted with the S60 and the raised V60 Cross Country station wagon, and the standard V60 "shed" is not being brought to us. Like the XC60 crossover and the ninetieth family, the D-class cars have moved to the modular SPA (Scalable Product Architecture) platform. Hence the peculiar double wishbones in the front and a transverse composite spring in the rear. Tribute to the times - the fundamental absence of diesel engines.

The sedan is being produced at a brand new factory in the States and looks like a smaller copy of the S90. The station wagon is utterly similar to the V90 Cross Country, with which they share the home assembly line in Gothenburg. To my taste, thanks to its compactness, the "sixties" look even prettier, and the confusion between the older models and the younger ones always plays into the hands of the owners of the latter. The salon is also scaled, and after the XC60 it calls for deja vu. That's not bad: Swedish interiors are one of the most solid in the class and, perhaps, the most comfortable.

But the multimedia components are losing their relevance: the insufficiently contrasting panel with painted devices and the nine-inch Sensus Connect tablet no longer cause the same wow effect. Controlling climate control, seat heating and steering wheel with a touchscreen is more annoying. But I like the wipers with heated nozzles built into the brushes. The fluid is dispensed with an upward sweep for efficient cleaning at minimum flow.

There is no feeling of spaciousness in the cabin. Although a tall (187 cm) person sits down behind "by himself", without feeling constraint in the knees. There is enough clearance between the head and the ceiling, however, when the front seats are lowered as much as possible, the legs under them are placed with difficulty. The third passenger of the couch is hindered by a massive tunnel on the floor. Together, you can appreciate the wide center armrest, but the door fails, from which the elbow slips. Despite the different roofline, the station wagon does not create a sense of greater freedom.

Front-wheel drive and 190 hp - "base" for the sedan. And, perhaps, the optimum: S60 T4 starts softly, but without delay and actively accelerates. The Aisin “automatic machine” works quickly and delicately. The traction is comfortable to control thanks to the responsive accelerator. Like! But the T5 with a capacity of 249 hp is even better, because it is faster. And it's all-weather: in winter it's easier and more fun with all-wheel drive. The station wagon is 39 kg heavier than the T5 sedan and nominally loses half a second when accelerating to 100 km / h. But subjectively, this is not felt.

Controllability differs slightly. It is interesting to drive on Cross Country: the five-door confidently stands on an arc, and gently tightens inward under the gas release. With a sharper attempt to change the trajectory, it plows out of the bend to the chirp of the non-disconnectable stabilization system. At the same time, the seat belt unexpectedly uses a chokehold, sharply pulling to the chair.
